In Memory of Dr. Deeb

Dear Rabbit Family,

It is with deep sadness that I learned of Dr. Barbara Deeb’s passing on May 9, 2005. Our sense of loss is tremendous. The rabbit community, as a whole, has lost a great friend and ally. Her diagnostic skills and knowledge of rabbit medicine were unmatched. She helped bring treatment for our furry friends out of the dark ages.  Fortunately, she unselfishly shared her knowledge with many others in the veterinary field. Her good work will live on.

The fiberglass vet cages that Dr. Deeb donated to our new facility will house sick and injured rabbits for many years to come. Yet, this didn’t seem quite a fitting memorial to our unique and special Dr. Deeb. We have recently constructed two memorial gardens in front of our new
bunny house. It seems fitting that our first memorial plant should be in her honor. I have just planted a very proper old-fashioned rose bush named Barbara in the first garden. It is a small, compact plant with many thorns. It seems a little prickly at first. When the abundant, many petaled pink flowers open they will show their soft, golden heart. This rose will represent the Dr. Deeb we all knew and loved. We pray that as Dr. Deeb crossed over the Rainbow Bridge she was welcomed by the multitude of bunnies whose earthly lives were enriched by her loving touch. May she frolic in the sunshine with her furry friends eternally. We will miss her so.

With deep sorrow,

Sue
